Job Description
Join QML Pathology, a leader in diagnostic services, as a dedicated Pathology Collector with a strong focus on phlebotomy. This crucial role supports our State Health initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of specimen collection and patient care. You will be responsible for performing venepuncture and capillary collections, processing samples efficiently, and meticulously maintaining a sterile and safe environment within our collection centres. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented and compassionate individual to contribute significantly to public health in a dynamic and supportive team based in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venepuncture and capillary collections with precision, professionalism, and patient comfort as primary considerations.
- Accurately identify patients and label specimens in strict accordance with pathology guidelines and protocols.
- Provide clear, concise, and compassionate instructions to patients regarding collection procedures and post-collection care.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and sterile collection environment, rigorously adhering to infection control protocols and WHS standards.
- Process and prepare collected specimens for timely transport to the laboratory, ensuring sample integrity.
- Manage patient records and administrative tasks with utmost accuracy and confidentiality, utilising relevant systems.
- Adhere to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for self and others.
- Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and stay updated with best practices in pathology collection.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in phlebotomy and pathology collection (minimum 6 months) in a clinical setting.
- Excellent venepuncture and capillary collection skills across diverse patient demographics.
- Strong attention to detail and impeccable accuracy in patient identification and specimen labelling.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating empathy and a patient-centric approach.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment, managing multiple tasks.
- Comprehensive understanding of infection control principles and robust WHS procedures.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry, record management, and system navigation.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, with a willingness to maintain currency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Pathology Collection (HLT37215 or HLT47215) or an equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience working within a State Health system or a large, high-volume pathology network.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems (LIS).
