Job Description

Are you an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy student eager to gain practical experience within the dynamic NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) framework? Healthia is offering a unique internship opportunity in our Surfers Paradise clinic. This role is designed for a student currently enrolled in an accredited Occupational Therapy program, providing hands-on experience in assessment, intervention planning, and service delivery specifically for NDIS participants. You will work closely with experienced OTs, learning to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, contribute to client goal attainment, and understand the intricacies of NDIS reporting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced Occupational Therapists in conducting assessments for NDIS participants across various age groups and diagnoses.
  • Support the development and implementation of client-centred intervention plans.
  • Observe and participate in therapy sessions, both in-clinic and community-based.
  • Aid in documentation, progress tracking, and report writing for NDIS funding purposes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of therapy materials and resources.
  • Learn about NDIS guidelines, funding categories, and service delivery models.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards, ensuring client confidentiality and safety.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Demonstrated passion for working with individuals with disabilities and an interest in the NDIS.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic understanding of occupational therapy principles and practices.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior volunteer experience in a healthcare or disability support setting.
  • Familiarity with basic NDIS terminology and structure.
  • Current driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (for potential community visits).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
