Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Nursery Potting Hand to join our friendly team at Gascoyne Garden Centre in Carnarvon. This role is focused on light horticultural tasks, making it suitable for individuals of all ages and varying physical abilities who possess a genuine interest in plants and a desire to work outdoors. No previous experience in a nursery is required; we are looking for reliable individuals with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and grow with our team. You will play a vital part in preparing and maintaining our diverse range of plants, ensuring they thrive and are ready for our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Carefully potting and re-potting plants into various sized containers, ensuring proper soil and root care.
- Assisting with plant propagation activities, including seeding, taking cuttings, and transplanting seedlings.
- Watering and fertilizing plants according to established schedules and specific plant needs.
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and tidy nursery environment, including weeding beds and work areas.
- Moving plants and related materials around the nursery with care, using trolleys or by hand for lighter items.
- Assisting with inventory management and ensuring plants are correctly labelled and displayed.
- Providing support to customers with basic inquiries or directing them to specialist staff when needed.
Required Skills
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Good hand-eye coordination and strong attention to detail.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic and a proactive approach.
- Capable of performing repetitive light physical tasks, including standing, bending, and light lifting.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- A genuine interest in plants, gardening, or horticulture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of plant care and common gardening practices.
- Previous experience in a nursery, garden centre, or agricultural setting.
- Current driver's license and reliable transport.
