Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Museum Assistant to join our public sector cultural team. This role is crucial in supporting the daily operations of our cultural initiatives, ensuring a welcoming environment for visitors and seamless administrative support for our programs. The successful candidate will contribute to the public’s engagement with Australian heritage and culture, working within a dynamic team dedicated to public service and cultural enrichment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup and dismantling of exhibitions and public programs.
- Provide front-of-house support, including greeting visitors, answering inquiries, and assisting with event registrations.
- Manage bookings and scheduling for various cultural activities and venue hire.
- Handle administrative tasks such as data entry, document preparation, and inventory management.
- Support the marketing and promotion of cultural events through various channels.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of public areas and storage facilities.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful program delivery.
- Adhere to all safety and security protocols, ensuring a safe environment for visitors and staff.
- Process retail transactions and manage stock in the gift shop or information desk.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Customer service experience
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 15kg
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a museum, gallery, or cultural institution
- Knowledge of Australian history and culture
- Experience with ticketing or booking systems
- First Aid certification
- Tertiary qualification in arts, heritage, museum studies, or a related field
