Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Irrigation Designer to join our team in Gympie, QLD. This role involves designing efficient and effective irrigation systems for a diverse range of rural and commercial applications, from broadacre farming to horticultural projects and commercial landscapes. You will be responsible for the full design lifecycle, from initial consultation and site assessment to producing detailed plans and specifications. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a deep understanding of hydraulic principles, and a passion for sustainable water management.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site visits and collaborate with clients to understand their irrigation needs and project requirements.
- Perform detailed hydrological and soil analysis to inform design decisions.
- Design and size irrigation systems, including pump stations, mainlines, laterals, and emitters, utilizing CAD software.
- Prepare comprehensive irrigation plans, specifications, bills of materials, and cost estimates.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant Australian standards, industry best practices, and local regulations.
- Provide technical support and guidance to sales teams and installation crews.
- Research and evaluate new irrigation technologies and products.
- Assist in project management and oversight to ensure successful implementation of designs.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all projects.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Irrigation Designer or similar role.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, IrriCAD) for irrigation design.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic principles, pump selection, and pipe sizing.
- Knowledge of various irrigation methods and equipment (drip, sprinkler, micro-irrigation).
- Ability to interpret topographic maps, soil reports, and water source data.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client and team collaboration.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Water Management, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Certification in irrigation design (e.g., IA Certified Designer).
- Experience with project management software.
- Familiarity with local agricultural practices in Queensland.
- Experience with remote monitoring and control systems for irrigation.
