Job Description

As an Intensive Care Paramedic (ICP) with NSW Ambulance, you will be at the forefront of emergency medical response, providing advanced life support and critical care in dynamic and challenging environments. This is a highly rewarding role for an experienced paramedic who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient outcomes and thrives under pressure. You will be responsible for assessing, stabilising, and transporting critically ill or injured patients, utilising a comprehensive range of advanced clinical skills and medical interventions. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced pre-hospital medical care, including advanced airway management, mechanical ventilation, cardiac monitoring, and administration of a wide range of medications.
  • Rapidly assess and stabilise critically ill or injured patients at incident scenes.
  • Operate and maintain specialised medical equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with other emergency services personnel, medical staff, and community resources.
  • Accurately document patient care, assessments, and interventions according to organisational standards.
  • Maintain clinical competency through ongoing professional development and training.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and operational guidelines.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to less experienced paramedics and students.

Required Skills

  • Current unrestricted registration as a Paramedic with AHPRA.
  • Advanced Diploma of Paramedical Science (Ambulance) or Bachelor of Paramedicine, with relevant post-graduate qualifications in Intensive Care Paramedicine.
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience as a paramedic, with at least 1 year in an Intensive Care Paramedic role.
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in advanced life support procedures and equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Current Australian Driver's License (Class C or higher).
  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a major trauma or critical care setting.
  • Additional post-graduate qualifications in emergency management, critical care, or education.
  • Instructor certifications in advanced life support programs (e.g., ALS, PHTLS).
  • Fluency in multiple languages.
  • Experience with pre-hospital research or quality improvement initiatives.
