Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Government HR Assistant to join our People & Culture team. This entry-level role is an excellent opportunity for an individual passionate about human resources to gain valuable experience within a dynamic local government environment. The HR Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative and operational support across various HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and policy implementation. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of HR processes and contributing to a positive workplace culture. This position requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the end-to-end recruitment process, including posting job advertisements, screening applications, and coordinating interviews.
- Prepare new employee onboarding documentation and facilitate induction programs.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
- Provide administrative support for employee relations matters, including scheduling meetings and preparing correspondence.
- Assist in the preparation of HR reports and presentations for management.
- Support the People & Culture team with policy research, development, and implementation.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and benefits in a timely and professional manner.
- Coordinate HR-related training sessions and workshops for staff development.
- Perform general administrative duties as required to support the HR department and its initiatives.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information discreetly.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- A genuine interest in Human Resources and public service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Previous administrative experience in an office environment.
