Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic GIS Intern to join our team in Mount Gambier for a Spatial Data Mapping Placement. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring geospatial professional to gain hands-on experience with real-world projects. You will work alongside experienced GIS analysts and engineers, contributing to critical data management, analysis, and mapping tasks across various environmental, infrastructure, and urban planning projects. This internship is designed to provide practical skills development and a deeper understanding of GIS applications in a professional consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the collection, organization, and management of spatial data.
  • Perform digitizing, georeferencing, and data conversion tasks.
  • Conduct basic spatial analysis to support project requirements.
  • Produce high-quality maps, charts, and reports using GIS software.
  • Support senior GIS analysts and project managers with ad-hoc geospatial tasks.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity across all GIS activities.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.

Required Skills

  • Fundamental understanding of GIS principles and concepts.
  • Basic proficiency with industry-standard GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
  • Ability to learn new software and methodologies quickly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Some experience with Python scripting for GIS automation.
  • Familiarity with GPS data collection methods and equipment.
  • Understanding of remote sensing data and its applications.
