Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Day Shift Gardener for casual work to join our Parks and Gardens team. This role involves maintaining the aesthetic appeal and health of various public green spaces across Swan Hill. If you have a passion for horticulture, enjoy working outdoors, and are looking for flexible daytime hours, we encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general garden maintenance tasks including planting, watering, weeding, pruning, and mulching.
- Operate and maintain various gardening tools and equipment safely, such as mowers, whipper snippers, and hedge trimmers.
- Monitor plant health, identify pests and diseases, and apply appropriate treatments.
- Assist with the preparation and planting of seasonal floral displays.
- Ensure public areas are kept clean, tidy, and free of litter.
- Adhere to all Council safety procedures and environmental guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve project goals.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in general garden maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of plant care, common pests, and diseases.
- Ability to safely operate common gardening tools and machinery.
- Strong physical fitness and stamina for manual outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate II or III in Horticulture or a related field.
- Experience working in a local government or public space setting.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
