Job Description

Are you a passionate culinary student looking to gain invaluable hands-on experience in a dynamic commercial kitchen environment? Novotel Sydney Campbelltown is offering an exciting student placement opportunity for aspiring chefs to immerse themselves in the daily operations of a professional kitchen. This placement is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to various kitchen stations, culinary techniques, and the fast-paced world of hospitality food service. You will work alongside experienced chefs, learning best practices in food preparation, presentation, and kitchen management, contributing to our hotel’s reputation for quality dining and guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior chefs with food preparation, including chopping, peeling, and portioning ingredients according to recipes and standards.
  • Learn and execute basic cooking techniques under supervision, such as grilling, frying, and sautéing.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen, adhering strictly to food safety regulations and company policies.
  • Support the kitchen team in plating and presenting dishes for various dining outlets and functions, ensuring visual appeal.
  • Assist with inventory management, including stock rotation, proper storage, and receiving deliveries.
  • Actively participate in learning opportunities, ask questions, and receive feedback to continuously improve culinary skills.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, fostering respect and open communication.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a recognized culinary arts program or hospitality course.
  • Basic understanding of culinary principles and kitchen operations.
