Job Description

As a Council Customer Service Officer at our Innisfail Regional Office, you will be the primary point of contact for residents, visitors, and businesses. This crucial front-counter role involves providing exceptional customer service, responding to a wide range of inquiries, processing payments, and assisting with various council services. You will act as an ambassador for the Council, ensuring that all interactions are professional, helpful, and efficient, contributing to a positive experience for everyone engaging with local government.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and timely information on Council services, policies, and procedures.
  • Process payments for rates, permits, licenses, and other council charges.
  • Assist customers with form completion, applications, and general inquiries.
  • Manage and resolve customer complaints or escalate issues to appropriate departments.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and transactions.
  • Operate front office equipment, including cash registers and computer systems.
  • Adhere to all Council policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Contribute to a positive and professional team environment.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a customer service role, preferably in a front-facing capacity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a patient and empathetic approach.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and standard office software.
  • Ability to handle cash and process financial transactions accurately.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working within a local government or similar public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of Council services, local regulations, and the Innisfail region.
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) software.
  • A Certificate III or IV in Business Administration or Customer Service.
