Job Description
Join Downer Group as a Civil Pipe Layer Assistant and play a crucial role in vital infrastructure projects across Dandenong. This ongoing full-time position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in civil construction, working alongside experienced professionals. You will assist with the installation and maintenance of pipelines for water, sewer, and stormwater systems, contributing directly to the community’s essential services. We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking individual eager to learn and grow within the civil construction industry. Safety is paramount at Downer, and comprehensive training will be provided to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced pipe layers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various piping systems (water, sewer, stormwater).
- Prepare trenches and lay pipes to correct specifications and grades.
- Support with connection of pipes and fittings, ensuring watertight seals.
- Operate small plant and equipment safely under supervision.
- Load and unload materials and maintain a tidy and safe work site.
- Follow all site safety procedures and protocols diligently.
- Perform general labouring duties as required on site.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to WHS regulations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- White Card (Construction Induction Card).
- Basic understanding of construction site operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a civil construction or labouring role.
- Current Driver's License (manual preferred).
- Experience with trenching and excavation.
- Knowledge of different pipe materials and joining techniques.
