Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Cattle Yard Assistant to join our team in Port Adelaide. This role is crucial to our daily operations, involving the care and movement of livestock within our yard facilities. You will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of our cattle, working closely with experienced team members. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the safe and efficient movement of cattle within yard areas.
- Monitor cattle for signs of injury, illness, or distress and report findings promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of pens, troughs, and general yard areas.
- Operate basic yard equipment and machinery as required (e.g., pressure washers, small loaders).
- Assist with feeding and watering of livestock, ensuring consistent access to feed and clean water.
- Perform general yard maintenance tasks, including minor repairs and upkeep.
- Adhere strictly to all animal welfare policies and biosecurity protocols.
- Work collaboratively with the yard team to achieve daily operational goals.
- Participate in safety briefings and adhere to all workplace health and safety procedures.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 12 months direct experience working with livestock, preferably cattle.
- Demonstrated understanding of animal welfare principles.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong observational skills for monitoring animal health and behaviour.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift license (LF class).
- First Aid certification.
- Experience operating small farm machinery or vehicles.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of biosecurity measures in a livestock setting.
