Job Description
Wollongong City Council is seeking dedicated and vigilant Pool Lifeguards for seasonal summer work across our aquatic facilities. This is an essential role focused on ensuring the safety of all patrons, maintaining a clean and secure environment, and providing excellent customer service. As a Lifeguard, you will be on the front lines, responding to emergencies, preventing incidents, and upholding the high safety standards of the Council. This temporary position offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to community safety and enjoy a dynamic work environment during the warmer months.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively supervise pool patrons to prevent accidents and ensure safety.
- Respond immediately and effectively to all aquatic emergencies, performing rescues and providing first aid/CPR as required.
- Conduct regular checks of safety equipment and report any faults or deficiencies.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations fairly and consistently.
- Assist with general facility maintenance, including cleaning pool surrounds, amenities, and equipment.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering queries and assisting patrons.
- Complete all required shift documentation and incident reports accurately.
- Maintain a high level of physical fitness and readiness for emergency response.
Required Skills
- Current Pool Lifeguard Licence (Royal Life Saving Society Australia or equivalent).
- Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011 or equivalent).
- Current CPR Certificate (HLTAID009 or equivalent).
- Demonstrated strong swimming ability and rescue skills.
- Excellent observational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and early mornings/late evenings.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Pool Lifeguard in a public aquatic facility.
- Certificate II or III in Aquatic Operations (SIS20115 or SIS30115).
- Experience with pool plant operations and water testing.
- Customer service experience.
