Job Description
Are you passionate about the outdoors and have a natural affinity for horses? S Kidman & Co Ltd is seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals for an entry-level Cattle Mustering Assistant position based near Mount Gambier, South Australia. This is an incredible opportunity for someone looking to start a career in the Australian pastoral industry, working with experienced stockmen and women. While previous mustering experience isn’t required, strong horse handling skills and a willingness to learn are essential. You will be an integral part of our station team, contributing to the efficient and humane management of our cattle.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior stockmen and women with cattle mustering and movement using horses.
- Participate in daily horse care, including feeding, saddling, and grooming.
- Support general station duties, such as fence repairs, water point checks, and infrastructure maintenance.
- Learn and apply best practices in animal welfare and low-stress stock handling.
- Operate basic farm machinery and equipment under supervision.
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness for yourself, colleagues, and animals.
- Contribute to a positive and productive team environment.
Required Skills
- Proficient horse riding and handling skills (e.g., saddling, bridling, riding for extended periods).
- Strong work ethic and physical fitness for demanding outdoor work.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with livestock, particularly cattle.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of rural safety practices.
