Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Cattery Attendant for casual day work at our Coffs Harbour location. This flexible role is perfect for individuals who have a genuine love for cats and are looking to make a meaningful contribution to animal welfare. As a Cattery Attendant, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care, comfort, and enrichment to our feline residents, ensuring their health and happiness while they await their forever homes. This role involves a variety of tasks, from cleaning and feeding to monitoring health and engaging in play and socialisation. Your commitment will directly impact the well-being of the cats in our care.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitise cat enclosures, litter trays, and common areas daily to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Prepare and distribute food and water according to individual dietary requirements and schedules.
- Monitor the health and behaviour of all cats, reporting any changes, concerns, or signs of illness to the supervisor.
- Administer medication as directed by veterinary staff, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
- Provide daily enrichment activities, including play, socialisation, and handling, to promote mental and physical well-being.
- Assist with intake procedures for new cats and prepare cats for adoption or transfer.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, medication, weight, and general observations.
- Engage with potential adopters, providing information about individual cats and general cat care advice.
- Launder bedding and maintain supplies of food, litter, and cleaning products.
- Adhere to all RSPCA NSW animal welfare policies and health and safety procedures.
Required Skills
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and a strong affinity for cats.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously.
- Physical fitness to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliability and a flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with cats in a professional or volunteer capacity (e.g., cattery, shelter, veterinary clinic).
- Basic knowledge of feline behaviour and common health issues.
- Current First Aid certification for animals (e.g., animal specific first aid).
- Completion of relevant animal care courses or certifications.
