Job Description

Are you passionate about craft beer and eager to kickstart your career in brewing? Gage Roads Brew Co is offering an exciting Brewmaster Intern – Craft Brewery Mentorship opportunity in Bunbury, Western Australia. This immersive internship is designed for aspiring brewers looking for hands-on experience and direct mentorship from seasoned brewmasters. You will gain comprehensive insights into all facets of craft beer production, from raw material handling to fermentation, packaging, and quality control. This is a unique chance to learn the art and science of brewing in a dynamic, supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist brewmasters with daily brewing operations, including mashing, lautering, boiling, and fermentation.
  • Learn and perform cleaning and sanitization protocols for brewing equipment and the facility.
  • Monitor fermentation processes, including gravity readings and temperature control.
  • Support packaging operations, including bottling, canning, and kegging.
  • Assist with raw material handling, inventory management, and cellar operations.
  • Participate in quality control procedures, including sensory evaluation and basic lab work.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Document processes and assist with record-keeping as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong passion for craft beer and the brewing industry.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to lift up to 25kg regularly and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Basic understanding of safety protocols in a production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a brewing science program or a related field (e.g., food science, chemistry, microbiology).
  • Prior experience in a food and beverage production environment or relevant homebrewing experience.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
