Job Description
Are you passionate about food and eager to learn the art of pizza making? La Porchetta in Morwell is looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Pizza Cook to join our dynamic kitchen team. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals with little to no prior experience, as we are committed to providing comprehensive, on-the-job training. You’ll learn everything from dough preparation and sauce creation to topping techniques and oven management, all while working engaging night shifts. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior pizza cooks in daily food preparation tasks, including chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients, and making sauces.
- Learn and master the art of dough stretching, topping pizzas accurately, and ensuring high-quality presentation.
- Operate pizza ovens safely and efficiently under supervision, monitoring cooking times and temperatures.
- Maintain a clean and organised workstation, adhering to all food safety and hygiene standards.
- Monitor inventory levels for pizza ingredients and report shortages to the kitchen manager.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth service during busy night shifts.
- Receive and store deliveries in accordance with company procedures.
- Contribute to a positive and respectful team environment.
Required Skills
- Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn new culinary skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Reliability and punctuality, especially for night shifts.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to food quality.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene practices (or willingness to learn immediately).
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift moderate weights.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment (even non-pizza related) is a bonus but not essential.
- Food Handler's Certificate (or willingness to obtain one promptly upon hiring).
- A genuine passion for Italian food and culinary arts.
