Job Description

Are you passionate about numbers and eager to kickstart your career in accounting? BDO Australia in Port Lincoln is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Accounting Cadet to join our dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity for an individual with little to no prior experience to gain hands-on experience, receive structured paid mentorship, and develop foundational accounting skills within a supportive mid-tier firm environment. You will work alongside experienced professionals, assisting with various accounting tasks and contributing to client success, all while receiving comprehensive training and support for your professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior accountants with the preparation of financial statements and reports.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate financial records using accounting software.
  • Support the team with general administrative tasks related to client engagements.
  • Reconcile bank statements and other financial documents.
  • Learn and apply relevant accounting principles and practices.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and, under supervision, with clients.
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • High level of motivation and a strong desire to learn and grow.
  • Commitment to ethical practices and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in an office environment or customer service role (volunteer or paid).
  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB) is a plus, but not essential.
