Job Description

Matchbox Pictures is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Film Editor (Assistant) to join our dynamic post-production team in Barton, ACT. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging talent to gain invaluable experience working on high-profile projects. The Assistant Film Editor will provide crucial support to our lead editors, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow from dailies to final delivery. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a passion for storytelling through editing. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a fast-paced creative environment. This is an On-site position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead editors with project setup, media ingestion, and organization.
  • Perform syncing, grouping, and multicam setups.
  • Create and manage various versions of cuts for internal review and client feedback.
  • Prepare sequences for sound design, colour grading, and visual effects.
  • Maintain and archive project files, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to editing software and hardware.
  • Execute basic editing tasks such as creating montages, string-outs, and selects.
  • Ensure all media is properly labelled, catalogued, and backed up.
  • Assist with outputting and quality control of various video formats.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with industry-standard editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve).
  • Strong understanding of post-production workflows and file formats.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Basic knowledge of sound editing and colour correction principles.
  • Effective communication and collaborative teamwork skills.
  • Problem-solving aptitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Film Production, Media Arts, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a post-production environment, even as an intern.
  • Familiarity with media asset management (MAM) systems.
  • Knowledge of Australian film and television industry standards.
