Job Description

GHD is seeking a motivated Junior Ecologist to join our dynamic Environment team in Shepparton. This entry-level position offers an exciting opportunity to launch your career in environmental consulting, working alongside experienced professionals on a diverse range of projects from impact assessments to biodiversity management and conservation. You will gain hands-on experience in field surveys, data analysis, and report preparation, supporting our commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes for our clients and the environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior ecologists with ecological field surveys, including flora and fauna identification and habitat assessment.
- Collect, collate, and manage ecological data using various tools and software.
- Contribute to the preparation of environmental reports, including literature reviews, data analysis, and technical writing.
- Support project managers in proposal development and project planning activities.
- Undertake desktop assessments and mapping using GIS tools.
- Adhere to GHD's safety protocols and quality management systems on all projects.
- Participate in client meetings and stakeholder engagements as required.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and best practices.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of Australian flora and fauna identification techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail and analytical capabilities.
- A valid Australian driver's license.
- Physical fitness for field work in varying terrains and weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Honours degree or Master's degree in a relevant ecological discipline.
- Previous experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Prior volunteer or internship experience in an ecological consulting or research setting.
- Knowledge of relevant Victorian environmental legislation and policies.
- First Aid certification.
