Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional and highly motivated Sustainability Manager to lead our corporate ESG initiatives. This pivotal role will drive the development, implementation, and reporting of our sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with global best practices and regulatory requirements. You will be instrumental in shaping Fortescue’s commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and robust corporate governance across our operations, particularly focusing on our regional presence in Western Australia. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage Fortescue's corporate ESG strategy and policies, ensuring alignment with business objectives and stakeholder expectations.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of ESG data, including greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, waste management, and social impact metrics.
  • Lead the preparation of annual sustainability reports, aligning with international standards such as GRI, SASB, and TCFD.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including investors, regulators, customers, and community groups, on ESG matters.
  • Identify and assess emerging ESG risks and opportunities, developing mitigation strategies and innovative solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement in sustainability performance across all operational sites, working closely with site managers and operational teams.
  • Monitor global sustainability trends, regulatory developments, and best practices to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Provide expert advice and training to internal teams on ESG principles and their practical application.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of sustainability professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in sustainability management, corporate social responsibility, or environmental consulting.
  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD) and reporting standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement sustainability strategies.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and generate actionable insights.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, both written and verbal.
  • Project management expertise, with the ability to lead multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience within the mining, energy, or heavy industry sectors.
  • Certification in sustainability reporting or ESG analysis.
  • Knowledge of Australian environmental regulations and indigenous engagement best practices.
