Job Description

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Casual Instructors for day shifts to join our vibrant team in Footscray. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about empowering participants of all ages through engaging and safe instruction. As a Casual Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering a variety of programs, ensuring a positive and supportive learning environment, and upholding YMCA’s core values. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference in the community while gaining valuable experience in a flexible work setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging and age-appropriate instructional programs or activities.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to participants to support their development.
  • Maintain a positive, encouraging, and inclusive environment.
  • Adhere to all YMCA Victoria policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare and set up equipment and facilities before sessions and pack down afterwards.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members.
  • Attend required training sessions and team meetings.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in leading groups or instructing in a recreational or educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage participants of diverse backgrounds and ages.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and risk management.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications or certifications in sports, fitness, recreation, education, or a specific instructional area (e.g., swim instructor, group fitness, outdoor education).
  • Previous experience working in a community-based or not-for-profit organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt instruction methods to suit different learning styles.
