Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Ambulance Dispatch Assistant to join our critical operations team in Gosford. In this fast-paced and challenging role, you will be the crucial link between emergency calls and our on-road ambulance crews. You will be responsible for receiving and prioritizing emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching appropriate resources, and monitoring their progress. This role requires exceptional communication skills, the ability to make quick decisions under pressure, and a compassionate approach to assisting callers in their time of need. Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency (000) and non-emergency calls with professionalism and empathy.
- Gather essential information from callers to accurately assess situations and determine appropriate response.
- Prioritize calls based on severity and urgency, adhering to established protocols.
- Dispatch ambulance resources efficiently and effectively to incident locations.
- Maintain continuous communication with ambulance crews, providing updates and support.
- Monitor the status and location of all dispatched units using advanced CAD systems.
- Liaise with other emergency services and healthcare providers as required.
- Accurately record all call details, dispatch information, and incident outcomes.
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in life-threatening situations.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- Exceptional verbal communication skills with a clear and calm telephone manner.
- Ability to remain composed and make critical decisions in high-stress situations.
- Strong geographical knowledge of the Gosford and wider Central Coast region.
- Proficiency in using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems or similar dispatch software.
- Excellent data entry and administrative skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and manage competing priorities.
- A strong commitment to public service and patient care.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Current First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in an emergency services dispatch, call centre, or similar high-volume customer service environment.
- Formal qualifications in dispatch operations, emergency management, or a related field.
- Experience with medical terminology.
- A valid NSW Driver's Licence.
