Job Description

MidCoast Council is seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to join our team as School Crossing Supervisors in Taree. This vital part-time community role involves ensuring the safety of children crossing roads at designated school zones during peak school times. You will be the friendly face that helps our youngest community members navigate their way to and from school safely, contributing directly to the well-being and peace of mind of parents and educators. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic at designated school crossings before and after school hours.
  • Utilise traffic control signs and equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure children cross the road safely and efficiently, providing clear instructions and supervision.
  • Maintain a high level of vigilance, observing traffic conditions and pedestrian movements.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with children, parents, motorists, and school staff.
  • Report any incidents, concerns, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate authorities.
  • Adhere strictly to all Council policies, procedures, and relevant road safety legislation.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with children and adults.
  • High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and situational awareness.
  • Patience, a friendly demeanour, and a genuine care for children's safety.
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a role requiring public interaction or community safety.
  • A current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
