Job Description

We are seeking a talented Natural Language Processing (NLP) Tech to join our innovative team in Richmond, Melbourne. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and deploying advanced NLP models and systems that power intelligent features across Atlassian’s product suite. You will work with large datasets, apply machine learning techniques, and contribute to cutting-edge research to enhance user experience and internal operations. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of collaboration software through the application of sophisticated language understanding technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy NLP models and algorithms for various applications, including text classification, entity recognition, sentiment analysis, and question answering.
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to integrate NLP solutions into core Atlassian products.
  • Process, clean, and analyze large volumes of unstructured text data.
  • Perform experiments to evaluate and improve the performance of NLP models.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in NLP, machine learning, and AI research.
  • Contribute to the entire software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment and maintenance.
  • Participate in code reviews and mentor junior team members.

Required Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Python and relevant NLP libraries (e.g., NLTK, spaCy, Hugging Face Transformers).
  • Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals, deep learning architectures (RNNs, Transformers), and statistical modeling.
  • Experience with text data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) for deploying ML models.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work with complex data.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Linguistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Experience with distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark).
  • Knowledge of information retrieval systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience contributing to open-source NLP projects.
  • Experience with MLOps practices for productionizing NLP models.
