Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Veterinary Technician to join our growing specialist clinic in Ballina. This role involves assisting veterinarians with advanced procedures, patient care, anesthesia monitoring, and client communication within a multi-specialty practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in veterinary technology, a passion for complex medical cases, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and specialized procedures.
- Monitor anesthesia and vital signs for surgical and critical care patients.
- Perform laboratory tests, including blood work, urinalysis, and cytology.
- Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure proper documentation.
- Educate clients on post-operative care, medication administration, and general pet health.
- Operate and maintain specialized veterinary equipment (e.g., ultrasound, endoscopy, digital radiography).
- Ensure cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments, equipment, and facility.
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and comfort during their stay.
- Provide compassionate nursing care for hospitalized patients.
Required Skills
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a veterinary practice, preferably a referral or emergency setting.
- Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.
- Strong venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and drug calculation skills.
- Excellent understanding of sterile technique and surgical assistance.
- Ability to perform basic laboratory procedures and diagnostic imaging.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Proficiency in veterinary practice management software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a specialty area such as internal medicine, surgery, or emergency/critical care.
- Advanced certifications (e.g., VTS in Anesthesia, ECC, Internal Medicine).
- Knowledge of advanced diagnostic techniques.
- Experience mentoring junior staff or students.
