Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veteran Affairs Support Officer to join our team. In this rewarding public sector role, you will provide crucial administrative and support services to veterans and their families, assisting them in navigating various entitlements, services, and community programs. This position requires a high degree of empathy, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the dignity and rights of our veteran community. You will be a primary point of contact, offering guidance, processing documentation, and connecting veterans with appropriate resources. This is an on-site position based in our Wagga Wagga office.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and information to veterans and their families regarding available government services, benefits, and support programs.
- Assist veterans with the completion and submission of forms, applications, and documentation related to veteran affairs.
- Act as a liaison between veterans and relevant government departments, healthcare providers, and community organisations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and case management.
- Organise and facilitate support groups, workshops, or informational sessions for the veteran community.
- Research and stay updated on changes in veteran entitlements, policies, and available services.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure comprehensive support for veterans.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in a support or administrative role, preferably within a community service or public sector environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and empathetically.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and document processing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- A genuine understanding and empathy for the unique challenges faced by veterans and their families.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Australian veteran affairs legislation, policies, and support networks.
- Experience working with diverse client groups, including those who may have experienced trauma.
- Fluency in additional languages.
