Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Unpaid Intern to join our team as an Art Gallery Assistant. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a vibrant regional art gallery. The successful candidate will support various aspects of gallery management, exhibition preparation, visitor services, and administrative tasks, contributing significantly to our mission of promoting arts and culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation and de-installation of art exhibitions, including handling artworks under supervision.
  • Provide friendly and informative assistance to gallery visitors, answering questions and ensuring a positive experience.
  • Support administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and managing gallery correspondence.
  • Aid in the preparation and execution of public programs, workshops, and special events.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of gallery spaces and storage areas.
  • Conduct basic research related to artists, artworks, and exhibition themes.
  • Assist with inventory management and documentation of the gallery's collection.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated interest in art, art history, or cultural institutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliability and a proactive attitude.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant degree program (e.g., Art History, Museum Studies, Arts Management).
  • Previous volunteer experience in a gallery, museum, or cultural setting.
  • Familiarity with art handling best practices (training will be provided).
