Job Description

Join the City of Wyndham as a Tree Auditor with a focus on Urban Forestry. This vital role contributes to the health and sustainability of our urban forest by conducting comprehensive tree assessments, identifying risks, and ensuring compliance with council policies and industry standards. You will be responsible for field inspections, data collection, and providing expert advice to support strategic urban planning and green infrastructure development within the municipality. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of arboriculture, and a commitment to public safety and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of trees within public spaces, parks, and council-managed lands.
  • Identify tree health issues, structural defects, pest and disease infestations, and potential hazards.
  • Collect accurate tree inventory data using GIS and specialised software.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations on tree management, pruning, removal, and planting strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards, council policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation for tree assessments and management plans.
  • Respond to public enquiries and concerns regarding tree health and safety.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Parks & Gardens, Planning) and external contractors.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of urban forestry strategies and green infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in emergency tree response situations when required.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Arboriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in tree assessment, diagnosis, and risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Standards for tree work (AS 4373) and local government regulations.
  • Proficiency in using GIS software and tree inventory management systems.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Current Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Arboriculture, Environmental Science, or Urban Planning.
  • ISA Certified Arborist qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience working within a local government or council environment.
  • Knowledge of native Australian flora and urban ecology.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
