Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced TOEFL / IELTS Examiner to join our assessment team in Katherine. This crucial role involves evaluating the English language proficiency of candidates taking either the TOEFL or IELTS examinations. You will be responsible for conducting speaking tests, marking written components, and ensuring all assessments adhere strictly to the established guidelines and standards set by the respective test organisations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a meticulous approach to detail, and a deep understanding of language assessment methodologies. Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting TOEFL/IELTS speaking tests with candidates in a fair and professional manner.
  • Accurately assessing and scoring candidate performance according to established TOEFL/IELTS criteria and band descriptors.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality and security protocols for all test materials and candidate information.
  • Participating in regular standardisation and training sessions to ensure consistency and accuracy in scoring.
  • Providing constructive feedback to candidates where appropriate (within ethical guidelines) and when part of a broader educational program.
  • Adhering to all administrative procedures related to test day operations and score reporting.
  • Ensuring a positive and supportive testing environment for all candidates.
  • Collaborating with the assessment team to uphold the integrity and quality of the testing process.

Required Skills

  • Native or near-native proficiency in English (equivalent to C1/C2 on the CEFR).
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in English language teaching or assessment.
  • Prior certification as an IELTS Examiner or willingness to complete required certification training.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict guidelines and protocols.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Current certification as an IELTS Examiner (all modules) and/or TOEFL iBT Rater.
  • Experience with various standardised English language tests.
  • Familiarity with the specific scoring rubrics and assessment criteria for both TOEFL and IELTS.
