Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Illustrator with a strong engineering focus to join our dynamic team. This is a 100% remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within Australia. As a Technical Illustrator, you will be responsible for creating clear, accurate, and visually compelling technical illustrations, diagrams, and schematics that support our engineering projects, operational manuals, safety procedures, and training materials. You will work closely with engineers, subject matter experts, and technical writers to translate complex technical information into easily understandable visual content. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of engineering principles, and proficiency in relevant illustration software.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and produce high-quality technical illustrations, diagrams, schematics, and exploded views from engineering drawings, CAD models, and written specifications.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other technical personnel to ensure accuracy and clarity of all visual content.
- Maintain consistency in illustration style, terminology, and standards across all projects.
- Review and revise existing illustrations to reflect updates in design, processes, or specifications.
- Manage multiple illustration projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines and project requirements.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of illustration guidelines and best practices.
- Utilize advanced illustration software to create and manipulate 2D and 3D technical graphics.
- Ensure all illustrations comply with industry standards and internal company guidelines.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in technical illustration software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW Technical Suite, AutoCAD, SolidWorks Composer).
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, mechanical components, and assembly processes.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in visual representation.
- Proven experience in creating clear and effective technical documentation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Experience with 2D and 3D rendering and animation for technical purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Illustration, Graphic Design, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in relevant technical illustration software.
- Experience working in the energy, oil & gas, or heavy industry sectors.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and version control tools.
- Knowledge of DITA or other structured authoring environments.
