Job Description
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Technical Illustrator with an engineering focus to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating high-quality technical illustrations, diagrams, and schematics for a variety of engineering projects, including defense, transport, and infrastructure. You will work closely with engineers, subject matter experts, and technical writers to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and visually engaging graphics. This position requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and produce detailed technical illustrations, exploded views, assembly diagrams, and schematics using CAD software and other illustration tools.
- Interpret engineering drawings (e.g., mechanical, electrical, structural), blueprints, and specifications to accurately represent components and systems.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, product managers, and technical writers to ensure accuracy and clarity of all visual content.
- Maintain consistency in illustration style, standards, and terminology across all documentation.
- Manage illustration projects from conceptualization through to final delivery, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Review and revise existing illustrations based on feedback and engineering changes.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of illustration guidelines and best practices.
- Ensure all technical illustrations comply with relevant industry standards and safety regulations.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor) for extracting data and creating illustrations.
- Expertise in graphic illustration software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW).
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering principles.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Excellent visual communication and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience in creating technical illustrations for manuals, training materials, or service guides.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Illustration, Graphic Design, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with animation software for creating interactive technical content.
- Knowledge of Australian and international engineering standards (e.g., AS, ISO).
- Prior experience working in the defense, aerospace, or heavy industry sectors.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and documentation workflows.
