Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Systems Data Auditor to join our dynamic team in Tuggeranong, ACT. In this ongoing role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our extensive data systems. You will be responsible for conducting thorough audits of various datasets and system processes, identifying discrepancies, and recommending improvements to enhance data quality and compliance. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to critical government operations and develop expertise in data governance and auditing within a complex regulatory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed audits of system data and processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ATO policies and relevant legislation.
  • Identify data inconsistencies, errors, and potential fraud indicators through data analysis and system reviews.
  • Develop and implement audit plans, methodologies, and test scripts.
  • Prepare comprehensive audit reports detailing findings, risks, and actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with IT, policy, and business units to understand data flows, system functionalities, and operational requirements.
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of data quality frameworks and controls.
  • Participate in post-implementation reviews of new systems or data migrations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant auditing standards, data protection regulations, and ATO internal policies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the data integrity and auditing functions.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques (e.g., SQL, Excel, data visualization software).
  • Strong understanding of data auditing principles and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze complex data issues.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in preparing detailed audit documentation and reports.
  • Knowledge of data governance best practices and data lifecycle management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Data Science, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience working with large-scale government datasets.
  • Familiarity with Australian tax and superannuation legislation.
  • Certification in auditing (e.g., CISA, CIA) or data management.
  • Experience with data modelling and database structures.
