Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Sewerage Maintenance Hand to join our essential services team in Ballarat. This hands-on role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our extensive wastewater network. You will be actively involved in performing routine maintenance, assisting with emergency response, and implementing preventative measures to keep our sewerage systems running smoothly. Your efforts will directly contribute to protecting public health and the environment within our service area. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and a readiness to work outdoors in various conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of sewerage infrastructure, including pipes, manholes, and pump stations.
- Perform routine cleaning and unblocking of sewerage lines using various tools and specialized equipment.
- Respond promptly to emergency call-outs for blockages, spills, and other sewerage incidents, often outside of normal business hours.
- Operate and maintain a range of hand tools and power equipment safely and effectively.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company operational policies.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including detailed reports on issues identified and resolutions implemented.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team, communicating clearly with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance technical skills and safety knowledge.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, digging, and working in confined spaces, in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of general tools and equipment used in maintenance or outdoor labor work.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, including an understanding of hazards associated with sewerage systems.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Reliable, punctual, and possessing a strong work ethic.
- Availability for on-call duties and emergency response as required by operational demands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar maintenance, construction, or outdoor labor role, particularly within a utility or heavy industry setting.
- Current and valid Australian Driver's License (manual license highly regarded).
- Relevant safety certifications such as Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights, and White Card (Construction Induction).
- Current First Aid certification.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
