Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Scientific Officer to join our dynamic diagnostic lab team in Bundaberg. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of diagnostic tests across various disciplines (e.g., biochemistry, haematology, microbiology) with precision and efficiency.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate sophisticated laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality control procedures, laboratory safety protocols, and NATA/ISO accreditation standards.
  • Interpret and validate laboratory results, escalating critical findings as per established procedures.
  • Participate in method development, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all tests, results, and quality control data.
  • Contribute to the training and mentorship of junior staff and students.
  • Collaborate effectively with pathologists, medical practitioners, and other healthcare professionals.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a diagnostic pathology laboratory.
  • Strong understanding of clinical laboratory principles, techniques, and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in performing and interpreting quality control data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification (e.g., Master's degree) in a relevant field.
  • Current registration with the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) or equivalent professional body.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and other relevant software.
  • Demonstrated experience in a specific diagnostic discipline such as microbiology or immunology.
