Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and passionate Recycling Outreach Officer to join our dynamic Waste and Environmental Services team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in educating our community about waste reduction, recycling best practices, and innovative resource recovery programs. You will engage with residents, businesses, and schools through various channels, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and contributing directly to the Council’s sustainability goals. This role requires excellent communication skills, a genuine interest in environmental issues, and the ability to inspire positive change within the Goulburn Mulwaree region.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging educational programs and workshops on recycling and waste minimisation for diverse community groups.
- Organise and attend community events, markets, and school visits to promote Council's waste services and initiatives.
- Create and distribute informative promotional materials, including brochures, social media content, and website updates.
- Provide expert advice and support to residents and businesses on proper waste sorting, recycling, and composting techniques.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach programs, reporting on key performance indicators.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to enhance waste management strategies and promote sustainable practices.
- Respond to community inquiries and feedback regarding recycling and waste services.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in community engagement, education, or outreach.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
- Strong presentation and public speaking abilities.
- Demonstrated passion for environmental sustainability and waste management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid Australian Driver's Licence and access to reliable transport.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Communications, Community Development, or a related field.
- Experience working within a local government or not-for-profit environmental organisation.
- Knowledge of current waste management trends and recycling technologies.
- Experience in content creation for social media and digital platforms.
