Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Psychiatric Nurse to join our Acute Mental Health Unit in Rockingham, WA. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. You will be instrumental in providing person-centred care, contributing to a safe and therapeutic environment, and working within a multidisciplinary team. The position includes attractive penalty rates for evening, weekend, and public holiday shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients in an acute mental health setting.
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and formulate care plans.
- Administer medications safely and monitor for side effects.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary.
- Collaborate effectively with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records.
- Participate in therapeutic group activities and individual counselling sessions.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients and staff, managing challenging behaviours.
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions and treatment options.
- Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and professional standards.
Required Skills
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Post-graduate qualifications or significant experience in Mental Health Nursing.
- Demonstrated experience in acute mental health settings.
- Strong assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to patient-centred care and recovery-oriented practice.
- Understanding of relevant mental health legislation and ethical guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) support.
- Advanced life support certification.
- Demonstrated leadership potential.
