Job Description
Are you an aspiring electrical engineer with a passion for power systems and a keen interest in critical infrastructure? Western Power is offering an exciting internship opportunity focused on electrical infrastructure within our dynamic Bunbury operations. This internship provides an invaluable chance to gain hands-on experience in a leading energy utility, contributing to the stability and evolution of Western Australia’s power grid. You will work alongside experienced engineers, learning about network planning, asset management, grid operations, and the integration of renewable energy sources. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in data collection, analysis, and interpretation for power system studies and projects.
- Support senior engineers in the design, planning, and assessment of electrical infrastructure upgrades and new developments.
- Participate in site visits and field assessments to understand operational challenges and infrastructure requirements (under supervision).
- Contribute to the development of technical reports, documentation, and presentations.
- Learn about grid operations, fault analysis, network protection schemes, and system reliability.
- Research emerging technologies in renewable energy integration, smart grids, and grid modernization efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on various engineering tasks and initiatives.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits, power system fundamentals, and electromagnetic principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis and report generation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
- A demonstrated proactive attitude and eagerness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior coursework or academic projects related to power electronics, renewable energy systems, or smart grids.
- Familiarity with power system simulation software (e.g., PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP) is a plus.
- Demonstrated interest in the energy sector, sustainable infrastructure, and grid modernization.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
