Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Data Specialist to join our finance team in Geraldton. This role is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our payroll data, supporting our large-scale operations. You will be responsible for maintaining payroll systems, processing data, and generating reports, all while adhering to strict compliance standards and internal policies. Key Responsibilities

  • Process and audit payroll data for accuracy and completeness, ensuring timely and compliant payroll cycles.
  • Maintain employee records in the payroll system, including new hires, terminations, changes in compensation, and benefits.
  • Generate various payroll reports for management, finance, and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local payroll regulations and company policies.
  • Respond to employee queries regarding payroll, deductions, and related matters.
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments to resolve payroll discrepancies and improve processes.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end payroll reconciliations and reporting.
  • Participate in system upgrades, testing, and implementation projects related to payroll.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy of payroll operations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a payroll or data specialist role, preferably in a large organization.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, complex formulas).
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Experience with SAP Payroll or similar large-scale enterprise payroll systems.
  • Payroll certification (e.g., Australian Payroll Association certification).
  • Experience in the mining or heavy industry sector.
