Job Description

Join Sims Metal Management as a Metal Recycler in our Shepparton facility. This is a heavy industrial role crucial to our operations, involving the processing and sorting of various metal scrap. You will be operating equipment, ensuring material quality, and adhering strictly to safety protocols within a dynamic environment. We are looking for individuals who are physically capable, safety-conscious, and ready to contribute to a sustainable future.

Key Responsibilities

• Sort and process various types of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal according to strict quality and company standards.
• Operate and monitor heavy machinery such as forklifts, excavators, balers, and shears (training and licensing support provided for qualified candidates).
• Conduct routine visual inspections of incoming and outgoing materials to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Adhere strictly to all company safety procedures, operational guidelines, and environmental regulations.
• Perform daily pre-start checks on equipment and assist with basic maintenance tasks.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area within the yard and processing facilities.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow and operational targets are met.
• Assist with general yard duties and material handling as required.

Required Skills

• Physical fitness and capability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods, in a heavy industrial outdoor environment.
• Demonstrated strong commitment to workplace safety, including adherence to all PPE requirements and safety protocols.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team.
• Basic mechanical aptitude or a willingness to learn the operation and maintenance of heavy machinery.
• Reliable, punctual, and possess a strong work ethic.
• Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, waste management, or recycling environment.
• Current Forklift license (LF) or other heavy machinery operator tickets (e.g., excavator, front-end loader).
• Basic knowledge of different metal types and sorting processes.
• Valid Australian driver's license and reliable transport to our Shepparton facility.
