Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Mastering Engineer (Assistant) to join our audio post-production team in Byron Bay. This entry-level position is perfect for an aspiring audio professional passionate about sound quality, meticulous detail, and a desire to learn the art and science of audio mastering. You will work closely with senior mastering engineers, providing essential support in all stages of the mastering process, from project setup to final delivery. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a top-tier studio environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior mastering engineers with session setup, recall, and breakdown.
- Perform quality control checks on masters, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and artistic vision.
- Manage and organize audio files, project data, and backup procedures.
- Prepare DDP images, WAV files, and other delivery formats for distribution.
- Maintain and calibrate studio equipment, including outboard gear, monitoring systems, and workstations.
- Research and implement best practices for audio archiving and metadata management.
- Continuously expand knowledge of audio mastering techniques, software, and hardware advancements.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with major Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton Live.
- Fundamental understanding of audio signal flow, acoustics, and digital audio principles.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for audio hardware and software.
- A genuine passion for music and audio production.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field.
- Prior internship or assistant experience in a professional recording or mastering studio.
- Familiarity with mastering-specific software (e.g., Izotope Ozone, FabFilter Pro-Q, Waves plugins).
- Knowledge of various audio codecs and delivery formats (e.g., MP3, AAC, FLAC, DDP).
- Understanding of Loudness Standards (e.g., LUFS).
