Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Leak Detection Specialist to join our team in Port Lincoln. In this critical role, you will be responsible for identifying and locating leaks within our extensive water distribution network, utilizing advanced acoustic and non-acoustic leak detection technologies. Your expertise will be vital in minimizing water loss, conserving precious resources, and ensuring the efficient operation of our utility infrastructure. This position requires a proactive approach, technical proficiency, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations to identify and pinpoint water main leaks and service line leaks using a variety of leak detection equipment (e.g., acoustic correlators, ground microphones, listening sticks).
  • Perform inspections of water meters, valves, hydrants, and other network assets to identify potential sources of leakage.
  • Utilize GIS mapping and data analysis tools to track and report leak locations and repair progress.
  • Prepare detailed reports on findings, including leak severity, location, and recommended repair actions.
  • Collaborate closely with repair crews, engineers, and operational staff to facilitate timely and effective leak repairs.
  • Maintain and calibrate leak detection equipment, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, particularly when working in varying environmental conditions and near active utility lines.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for leak detection methodologies and water loss management strategies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in leak detection within a utility or water management environment.
  • Proficiency with acoustic leak detection equipment (e.g., correlators, ground microphones).
  • Strong understanding of water distribution systems and network infrastructure.
  • Ability to interpret maps, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid Australian driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certification in water utility operations or leak detection.
  • Experience with non-acoustic leak detection methods (e.g., tracer gas, thermal imaging).
  • Basic knowledge of GIS software for mapping and data management.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working in remote or regional areas.
