Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Kennel Assistant to join our team on a casual, day-work basis. As a Kennel Assistant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for all animals under our care, as well as providing essential daily care and support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily feeding and watering for all boarding and hospitalized animals according to strict schedules and dietary needs.
  • Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and common areas thoroughly and regularly to maintain high hygiene standards.
  • Exercise and socialize animals, ensuring their mental and physical well-being.
  • Monitor animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns or changes to veterinary staff immediately.
  • Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint and minor procedures as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of food, cleaning supplies, and other kennel necessities.
  • Assist with bathing and grooming of animals when required.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing animals with care and appropriate documentation.

Required Skills

  • Genuine love and compassion for animals.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 20kg, standing for long periods, and repetitive motions.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Effective communication skills and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with animals in a kennel, shelter, or veterinary setting.
  • Basic knowledge of animal behavior and common health issues.
  • First Aid certification (animal specific is a plus).
  • Current driver's license and reliable transportation.
