Job Description
We are seeking a highly organised and compassionate Hospital Ward Clerk to join our team on a part-time basis, primarily covering night shifts and weekend work. As a vital member of the ward team, you will provide essential administrative and clerical support to ensure the smooth operation of the ward, enabling nurses and medical staff to focus on direct patient care. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring accurate and timely data entry into hospital systems.
- Maintain patient records, charts, and documentation, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with hospital policies.
- Answer phones, direct calls, and provide information to patients, families, and staff with professionalism and empathy.
- Schedule appointments, tests, and procedures as required by medical staff.
- Order and maintain an adequate supply of stationery and forms for the ward.
- Assist with general administrative tasks, including filing, photocopying, and faxing.
- Liaise with various hospital departments to coordinate patient care and services.
- Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for patients and visitors.
Required Skills
- Proven administrative or clerical experience, preferably within a healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and hospital information systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional and compassionate approach.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritise in a busy environment.
- Reliability and flexibility to work night shifts and weekends.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Business Administration or Medical Administration.
- Experience with Cerner Millennium or similar patient management systems.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge.
