Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Hospital Pharmacy Technician for a clinical support role in our North Lakes facility. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional to contribute significantly to patient care through advanced pharmacy support functions. The successful candidate will work closely with pharmacists and medical staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality medication management processes. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a fast-paced hospital environment. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a vital role in clinical support, drug distribution, and inventory management, directly impacting patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive clinical support to pharmacists, including medication reconciliation, patient education assistance, and drug information retrieval.
- Prepare and dispense medications accurately, including sterile and non-sterile compounding, under pharmacist supervision.
- Manage and maintain pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating medications, ensuring optimal stock levels and expiry date management.
- Conduct ward stock checks and maintain automated dispensing cabinets.
- Assist with quality assurance activities, audits, and compliance with all relevant regulations and hospital policies.
- Participate in patient education initiatives regarding medication use and adherence.
- Liaise effectively with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless medication delivery and patient safety.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation related to medication administration.
Required Skills
- Certificate IV in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting.
- Demonstrated experience in sterile and non-sterile compounding.
- Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Diploma of Pharmacy.
- Experience with automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell).
- Previous experience in a clinical support-focused pharmacy role.
- Current membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., SHPA).
