Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Government General Hand to join our Local Area Support team. This essential role involves a variety of manual tasks to maintain and enhance public amenities, parks, and infrastructure within the Laverton area. The successful candidate will contribute to the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of our community spaces, directly impacting the daily lives of residents. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy hands-on work outdoors and are committed to public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and cleaning tasks in parks, reserves, and public areas.
- Assist with landscaping duties, including mowing, weeding, planting, and irrigation maintenance.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on council assets, such as street furniture, fences, and playground equipment.
- Operate various hand tools and light machinery safely and efficiently.
- Collect and dispose of rubbish and litter, ensuring public spaces are clean and tidy.
- Report any hazards, damage, or issues observed during daily duties.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and council policies.
- Work effectively as part of a team to achieve daily operational goals.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to perform manual labour and physically demanding tasks.
- Basic understanding of workplace health and safety procedures.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
- Valid Australian Driver's License (manual preferred).
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar role within local government or a related industry.
- Experience operating light machinery (e.g., ride-on mowers, brush cutters).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., First Aid, White Card).
- Knowledge of local government operations and community service principles.
