Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Service Technician – Heavy Machinery to join our dedicated team in Parramatta, NSW. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a diverse range of Caterpillar heavy machinery at various client sites. Your expertise will ensure our customers’ equipment operates at peak performance, minimising downtime and maximising productivity. This is a hands-on position requiring extensive knowledge of heavy diesel mechanics, hydraulics, and electrical systems, coupled with a strong commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on Caterpillar heavy machinery, including engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrains.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance services and scheduled inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity.
  • Utilise advanced diagnostic tools and software to accurately identify faults and implement effective solutions.
  • Maintain meticulous service records, complete job reports, and manage parts orders efficiently.
  • Adhere strictly to all company and client safety protocols and environmental regulations, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, providing technical advice, job updates, and fostering strong customer relationships.
  • Travel to various client sites within the Parramatta region and surrounding areas, managing your time and resources effectively.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs to stay updated with the latest Caterpillar technologies and service procedures.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Field Service Technician or Heavy Diesel Mechanic, specifically working with heavy construction, mining, or agricultural machinery.
  • Relevant Australian trade qualification (e.g., Certificate III or IV in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Diesel Fitting, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics (electrical, hydraulic), technical manuals, and diagnostic codes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of electronic diagnostic tools and software for heavy equipment.
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • A valid Australian C-class driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to OHS standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various field conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specific Caterpillar OEM certifications and training.
  • Experience with advanced hydraulic and electronic control systems.
  • High-Risk Work Licences (e.g., Forklift, EWP) are highly regarded.
  • Previous experience working in a dealership environment.
