Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and driven Fashion Designer (Assistant) to join our innovative boutique label team in Innisfail, Queensland. This entry-level role is perfect for a talented individual eager to immerse themselves in the fashion design process, from concept to production. You will work closely with our Lead Designer, providing essential support in all stages of design and development for our bespoke collections. This is a unique opportunity to grow your skills within a dynamic environment, contributing to a brand that values creativity, quality, and distinctive style.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Designer in concept development, trend research, and mood board creation.
- Support the design process by creating technical drawings, sketches, and garment specifications.
- Prepare and manage materials for design presentations and sample development.
- Liaise with pattern makers, sample machinists, and suppliers to ensure accurate execution of designs.
- Organize and maintain the design studio, including fabric swatches, trims, and reference materials.
- Assist with fit sessions, taking detailed notes and contributing to problem-solving.
- Conduct research on fabrics, trims, and embellishments suitable for the boutique aesthetic.
- Contribute to quality control checks throughout the production cycle.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging designers, and new technologies in fashion.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for fashion design.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, textiles, and fashion terminology.
- Excellent sketching and illustration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- A foundational portfolio showcasing creative design work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
- Previous internship or volunteer experience in a fashion design studio.
- Familiarity with 3D design software (e.g., CLO3D) is a plus.
- Passion for sustainable and ethical fashion practices.
- Experience with production processes in a boutique or small-batch setting.
