Job Description

Join GHD as an Environmental Science Student for a unique opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in field research and sampling within environmental projects. This internship is designed for students passionate about environmental science who are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world consulting environment. You will support our environmental teams in various projects, contributing directly to data collection, analysis, and reporting. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior environmental scientists and engineers in conducting field investigations and site assessments.
  • Perform environmental sampling (e.g., soil, water, air) using established protocols and equipment.
  • Accurately record field data, observations, and measurements.
  • Maintain and calibrate field equipment to ensure data quality and reliability.
  • Prepare samples for laboratory analysis and manage chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Conduct basic data entry and assist with preliminary data analysis.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
  • Support report preparation by compiling field data and contributing to technical documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning discussions.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Earth Science, or a related field.
  • Strong academic record and a genuine interest in environmental consulting.
  • Basic understanding of environmental sampling techniques and protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in data collection.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions and terrains.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in field-based research or environmental projects (academic or professional).
  • Knowledge of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) for mapping and data management.
  • Valid Australian driver's license.
  • Current First Aid certification.
